Brisbane’s housing shortage is the worst in Queensland, according to figures in a new report from the Housing Industy Association (HIA). The Housing to 2020 report shows the Brisbane local government area (LGA) had a shortfall of 6474 dwellings in 2009, with the Beaudesert LGA coming in second at 2227, Ipswich third at 1913, Caboolture fourth at 1485 and Logan fifth at 1414. HIA Queensland executive director Warwick Temby warned that Queensland could find itself more than 150,000 homes short by 2020 if the State Government didn’t address new home affordability. “Queensland’s population is projected to reach 8.7 million by 2056, with half the people residing in Brisbane,” Mr Temby said.
